Boris Bounces Back

Boris Pic 2Weighing only 48.5 pounds (roughly 30 pounds underweight for his size, Boris was picked up by Tompkins County Animal Control and brought to the Tompkins County SPCA as part of an investigation into a case of neglect. A big, beautiful and happy two-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, Boris has bright brown eyes and a joyful demeanor.  However, on presentation to the shelter, his ribs were disturbingly prominent with an estimated body condition score of 2 out of 9.  Boris was way too thin. The medical staff and the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program carefully planned a re-feeding program to keep him from developing metabolic issues as he began to consume proper nutrition.  Additionally, in these cases, it is important to document weight gain as a means of proving neglect.  Boris is now up to eating normal portions and is putting weight back on. In addition we have vaccinated and de-wormed him for any parasites he might have had, and the volunteers have been providing him with love and enrichment.

Boris loves everyone and everything (other dogs, too) and his gentle-manly attitude makes it so that others love him right back!
