Maddie's® Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell

Pokey the cuddly Puggle

Pokey

Pokey, a 10 year old Puggle, was surrendered to the SPCA of Tompkins County when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. Pokey suffers from chronic allergies, which has caused excessive pigmentation of her skin and has kept her itching. During the 5 months that Pokey stayed at the SPCA, the shelter veterinarians with Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program initiated treatment to keep Pokey comfortable and scratch free. Due to long-term irritation from her allergies, Pokey’s skin will always be thickened and darker where she used to scratch, but she looks (and feels) much better now!

Pokey is a very sweet older girl, but she certainly doesn’t act her age! She loves to play fetch and get belly rubs. Thanks to her medical treatment, Pokey can enjoy playing ball without stopping to scratch herself. Pokey is now looking for a forever home with someone who will work with their veterinarian to keep her skin healthy while giving her lots of love and snuggles! .  {back}
